The Team
Ian & Agnes Muir - Managing Directors & Proprietors
Ian and Agnes Muir Ian and Agnes Muir started Fawley Stud in the early 1950's and built a very large, successful and well known business. The Muirs have been known in the thoroughbred breeding world for years, through the hard work and expertise of Ian Muir (senior). His exceptional knowledge is invaluable in running such a large, efficient operation as North Farm Stud and he is still hands on in every sphere at the age of 78. Agnes is always the great hostess and owners are fed and watered in her homely kitchen. Ian still monitors and sits up with the foaling mares every year and having had 60 years experience and foaled hundreds of mares never gets it wrong.

Grace Muir - Stud Manager
Grace Muir

Grace has worked for Kim Brassey and Jenny Pitman in the racing world, as well as KBIS, the equine insurance specialists and gained a wealth of knowledge throughout her involvement with horses from a very young age. She is fully committed to North Farm Stud and the horses who stay there and their respective owners.

Grace's knowledge of the veterinary side is extensive; at a young age she wanted to become a vet but now is doing the next best thing, nursing horses back to health and getting to the bottom of any veterinary problems.

Grace's interest in the rehoming side has grown since 1989 and with her the team has successfully rehomed in excess of 300 horses. With the formation of the charity HEROS, the rehoming of ex-racehorses will continue to grow.

Vicky Picken - PA to stud manager
Vicky Picken Vicky has recently been promoted to Personal Assistant to Grace Muir, the Stud Manager. She started here in August 2004 and has gone from strength to strength. She is a real “Girl Friday” with nothing being too much trouble for her, Vicky gets involved in most things happening at the stud on a daily basis and in the office from things in the yard to running Grace’s life...

Susan Jannaway
Sue Jannaway

Sue started at North Farm Stud in September 2005. She is a yard supervisor dealing with Mares and Foals; foaling broodmares, handling and rearing the new-borns and monitoring the boarding mares ready to walk-in to stallions during the season.

Sue is a BHSII qualified teacher and is a valued member of the team, re-schooling the ex-racehorses and showing them to potential owners. She also rides the point-to-pointers and is very involved in the day to day running of the yard.

The Yard Team
the yard team at North Farm Stud Mick, James and Andy are invaluable in the daily mucking out, tidiness and hygiene of our large yard. They are kept very busy and have numerous tasks in and around the yard; mainly mucking out, cleaning and disinfecting the 92 stables as we are fastidious about hygiene which comes top of their list.

Phillip Jannaway - Farm Manager
Philip Jannaway Phillip is the Farm Manager and also looks after the paddocks and mixes the feed which is mixed to our own specification after detailed analysis. He also helps on the stud and foals the mares with Ian during the foaling season, having had years of practice as he started out at Fawley Stud. He is the son-in-law of Ian and Agnes.

"Our horses benefit from first class facilities and are looked after by first class staff. We are safe in the knowledge that attention is paid to every detail. Our horses always look very well on their return to us"

Michael T W Blanshard - Racehorse Trainer
