North Farm Stud - A History
David and Agnes Muir The original Fawley Stud was founded in the early 1950's by David(Ian) & Agnes Muir. The success of the stud was built on the performance of 'What a Myth', who was owned and bred at Fawley Stud and went on to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1969.

'What a Myth' was sired by 'Coup de Myth', a stallion who failed the vet and was given to Ian by Mr Alex Pope; the Dam was 'What a Din', received in settlement of a bad debt of £28-10s.

'What a Myth' as a gelding won the Mildmay Memorial Chase at Liverpool and the Whitbread Gold Cup in 1966. Trained by Captain Ryan Price and ridden by Paul Kelleway, the horse went on to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup in great form at the age of 12 and was/remains the oldest horse ever to do so.

The Stud continued to grow becoming Fawley Stud Ltd in 1957 with many more successes to follow.

Having sold Fawley Stud in 1982, Mr and Mrs Muir spent seven years negotiating with the planning authorities for permission to convert the farm on the current site of North Farm Stud.

The new Stud was established in 1989 and many of Mr & Mrs Muir's old owners returned to them. Since then the facility has gone from strength to strength providing a top class service.

Without a doubt the land with its underlying chalk base has contributed greatly.

Grace Muir

Grace Muir was appointed Stud Manager in 1998 and is continuing to expand the business, building on its successes.

Having in the past found new homes/careers for horses that have retired from Racing, North Farm Stud is now dedicating additional resources to its Racehorse Rehoming activities in support of the Racing Industry; 20 years in the making, Grace has finally received Charitable Status for HEROS (Homing Ex-Racehorses Organisation Scheme).
